FOD

An acronym often used in aviation, FOD stands for foreign object debris or damage. Any foreign item found on or near electronic products that do not belong is FOD. Examples include paper clips, trash, hair, non-ESD safe items, and any item that does not belong. FOD can damage or diminish the characteristics of sensitive electronic components.

Employee awareness and “cleaning as you go” are critical tactics in controlling FOD.
